GHANATTA FOUNDATION

AKWAABA / WELCOME

The Ghanatta Foundation was founded in 1993 in The Hague. The main idea behind its establishment is to help the Ghanaian Community integrate better within Dutch society.

Aims and Objectives

During the past two decades, the population of Ghanaians resident in Holland particularly in the city of The Hague has increased enormously. These Ghanaian groups of immigrants reside notably in the Laakkwartier, Transvaal, Valkenboskwartier and the Centrum neighbourhoods of the city, particularly in the Schilderswijk.

Since the unavailability of representation at the ambassadorial level in Holland in the 80s, the Ghanaian community neither had a way of voicing out their grievances nor suggestions to the City authorities. It is obvious therefore that people of the same nationality and culture acting in harmony and in-group can solve problems easier. They can also be properly represented and their views better articulated when they act in concert. They may also learn from each other and try to help themselves when they are confronted with problems.

A group of Ghanaians having realized this formed the Ghanatta Foundation in 1993. The aims of the foundation are as follows:

1. To help Ghanaians within the City of The Hague and its metropolis to integrate and to improve upon their position within the Dutch Society.

2. To provide Ghanaians with wider and relevant information through Radio Ghanatta, Ghanatta TV and the news magazine "Nkwantabisa".

3. To organize Ghanaian cultural activities within the City for better understanding by the younger generation within Dutch society.

4. To help Ghanaians around The Hague with lessons in Dutch, through the Program "Let's Speak Dutch” on Radio Ghanatta.

5. To find ways to improve and promote the image of the Ghanaian community.

6. To fight against all forms of injustice, which may confront Ghanaians at the workplace, school, home etc.

7. To provide help and offer assistance to every Ghanaian in the city irrespective of sex, religion and which in Ghana he or she comes from.

8. To search for and provide aid in the form of hospital equipments and agricultural implements for the less privileged back home in Ghana.
